Wine has played an important role in Austria for more than 2700 years. Monasteries fulfilled the teaching task in medieval time. Since 1874 the School of Wine- and Fruit Growing in Krems has been the centre of education.

Subjects such as Grape Growing, Winemaking, Fruit Growing, Technical Studies, Marketing and Data Processing place the emphasis on today´s requirements.

Wine Presentation, Sales and Marketing, as well as lessons in English and Italian help our graduates to succeed in a competitive market.

Moreover, we focus upon our students as human beings who are eager to learn new technologies and develop their own personality at the same time.  

Basic training in Wine- and Fruit Growing

Module I:        2 years

Module II:       8 months at school

                         + 12 months on-the-job training

Theoretical and practical lessons in Grape Growing, Winemaking, Wine Presentation, Technical Studies, Fruit Growing, Direct Marketing

Lessons in general education: 

e.g. German, English, Math, Civics, ICT, Law 

1- and 2-week modules on current questions broaden the comprehensive knowledge

Qualification:

Certificate of Apprenticeship

in Grape Growing and Winemaking

A combination of business and wine growing studies.

Duration: 4 years

5-day training at business school

1-day training at viticultural school

5 theoretical and 3 practical lessons in: Grape Growing, Wine making and Presentation, Management and Technical Studies

Qualification:

Final examination

Qualifies for university entrance

Certificate of Apprenticeship

in Grape Growing and Winemaking

A course for spezialisation in presenting and selling wine

Duration: 1 year + 3 months on-the-job training

Lessons in:

Wine Tasting and Presentation, Sales and Marketing, Business Training, English, Italian, ICT, Wine Technology, Grape Growing.

·        Tastings of national and international wines.

·        Projects on wine presentation and special events.

Courses and lectures on present-day matters

Advisory Service

The school runs its own winery.

On an area of appr. 10 ha of vineyards varieties such as Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Neuburger, Chardonnay, Mueller Thurgau, Zweigelt, Red Burgundy, Blaufraenkisch, Cabernet Franc and Merlot are cultivated.

Vines are grafted in our own vine nursery.

A distillery enables us to distil fruits such as pears, apricots, apples and grapes.

Famous vineyards like “Kremser Sandgrube” with warm loess soil and “Kremser Wachtberg” with its sunny primary rock terraces offer ideal conditions for elegant wines rich in bouquet and body. All the wines are vinified in our own wine cellar.

3 ha of orchards provide for the cultivation of various fruits such as apples, pears, plums, cherries, apricots and walnuts.
